Pitt Meadows

The City of Pitt Meadow’s population has increased 4.7 per cent since 2011 – and it’s an aging community.

Mayor John Becker outlined four strategic directions, each having its own priorities:

  • corporate excellence;
  • economic prosperity − including working with the Katzie First Nation on economic opportunities;
  • community livability; and
  • transportation and infrastructure.

To help make housing more affordable, Pitt Meadows is changing its policies on secondary suites and denser development, moving away from single family zoning.

The city is also reviewing its policies on infill development. The goal is to to rebalance opportunities for community growth while complementing existing neighborhoods’ character.

Regulation changes being considered include:

  • increasing minimum lot width in R-1 Zone;
  • decreasing maximum building height;
  • support for different housing forms including courtyard housing, row housing, duplex, triplex, garden suites; and
  • establishing infill priority areas.

The city is moving towards redevelopment of existing, aging cooperatives and stratas using density bonusing incentives.

New commercial development includes a new hotel and a four million square foot Golden Ears business park, the second largest in the province, and spin-off jobs and apprenticeships.

Transportation improvements include a new rapid bus study with Maple Ridge, Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam, and TransLink, and an upgrade to the Highway 7 road and rail corridor.
